THRU THE GIVING-GLASS is a mock drag show flyer illustration created as a teaser and prelude to what would become my senior thesis at MIAD, “Queer’s Query: The Case of the Crystal Closet. The poster depicts Dorothy Dee Elle, a stained glass themed drag queen, promising a special event like no other, hosted at her very own bar, The Queen’s Castle.

As one of the more important characters of the story I was telling, and the one the plot essentially revolved around, I figured a piece dedicated to her would be appropriate. This also helped in being able to render her more complicated stained glass outfit that I had in mind for her.

Creating this poster was also where I began designing the character of Dorothy Dee Elle, which you can see through the conceptualization of the poster itself. I started by sketching out and overlaying design choices I was considering, such as her makeup and general outfit, and finalzing with the options I found worked best.
