RAGEOUS REMEDY: REMIXED
RAGEOUS REMEDY: REMIXED
RAGEOUS REMEDY: REMIXED is a recreation of a short comic page I created suring my sophomore year at MIAD. This full page illustration depicts Rageous Contagious, a reincarnated rock star commanding her army of germ monsters with her music.
The subtle storytelling in the song tells vaguely alludes to the past of Rageous Contagious, using puns, wordplay, and ryhming schemes, fitting of her character concept as a singer and artist.
Once a famous rockstar, there wasn’t a single person who didn’t know Rageous name. It looked like her career was only going up, until she fell ill from a deadly virus, one unknown by even the most talented doctors, who saw Rageous’ illness as a learning opportunity more than anything, letting her sickness persist, until she seemingly passed. However, a strange reaction occured in Rageous’ heart, and the virus that took her life had also revived her afterward. Along with this myserious new connection came the ability to communicate, mutate, and command the germs in and around her. They heard and understood her, and are willing to whatever it takes to help make Rageous Contagious feel well again, and if burning a city to the ground is the remedy, then so be it.
Before the poster design came creating an entire illustrated typeface fitting for the illustration to accompany it. Rageous’ snot henchmen can come in all shapes, and sizes, from boogers to blood clots. WIth their elasticity and flowy nature, I was able to explore shape language, creating something reminiscent of a body, as well as a letterform. Balancing color options, solid shapes, and those with less structure, I was able to find a good balance to create a cohesive alphabet with a fun variety, and something interesting to see in each letter.
Created as an assignment focused on hand-rendered type, I was able to create a much more engaging and characterized piece compared to where it originally started, as well as including color, and other general improvements and evolutions of my style. Utilizing a germ type and ransom note styled lettering, I was able to create a mix of unique but well-fitting wording Rageous’ encore performance
Diving into her character design, Rageous is one that I’ve had and utilized for a while now, and has seen many changes and tweaks large and small. Created to be a villain type, although not meant to be taken too seriously, I wanted to create a balance between intimidating, yet oddly charming. Her germ creatures help with this balance, with their simple smiley faces and round and huggable shapes.
