ANCIENT TEMPLES OF GREECE

ANCIENT TEMPLES OF GREECE

ANCIENT TEMPLES OF GREECE is a illustrated map design identifying a handful of key temples and sanctuaries located in Greece, housing deity statues used for worship.

As an assignment, I was given this prompt with the idea that this illustrated map could cover whatever topic I wanted, with the requirements of explicit key locations in the real world. As an artist, I find most of my favorite pieces come from decpitions of fiction, especially ideas of my own creation, and so I decided to use the idea of greek gods and the temples that were built for them. This gave me a setting in the real world, as well as allowed me to create and illustrate my very own depictions of select greek gods and goddesses.

I decided to give each greek god a monotone color scheme that I found best fit their character/what they represented. Atlas holds up a large, marble sphere depicting Greece, with each represented temple highlighted with the given gods color. Using a grey/marble color scheme for the map itself, along with surrounding elements and decals, I was able to create a layout that makes my characters pop, without taking away or distracting from the map itself.
